"Hi, I'm Roman and I'm studying for a Master's degree in Supply Chain Management at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. The decision to study Supply Chain Management after my Bachelor's degree was exactly the right one! Our group was a great size with 15-20 people, which was very helpful for the learning process and also allowed the interpersonal relationships to develop very well. The atmosphere was always excellent! All the lecturers are very dedicated to their group and demonstrate the importance of each individual area of logistics. With their professional experience and technical expertise, they have a wide range of knowledge that they pass on to the students to prepare us ideally for professional life."

Supply chain management has an integrative function; its primary purpose is to connect business functions and business processes within a company and between companies to an interconnected and efficient business model. Supply chain management incorporates all logistics and production management activities and governs the coordination of processes in and between the areas of marketing, sales, research, development and finance as well as information technology.

Programme objectives:

  • You will be familiar with the strategies and goals, instruments and methodology of supply chain management as well as with related structures and procedures. You will be able to model, analyse and evaluate supply chains by implementing suitable methodologies.
  • You will be familiar with the possibilities and implications of implementing suitable information technologies and electronic data processing. You will understand the key SCM technologies and be able to contribute to decisions about the introduction and utilisation of new technologies.
  • You will have learned about the instruments and methodologies used in supply chain management control and will thus be able to use them when modelling, analysing, evaluating and designing supply chains.
  • You will have developed the sensitivity needed to recognise conflicting goals and the resulting need for coordination in supply chains.  You will have acquired essential social and leadership skills through training courses in conflict resolution, behavioural skills and intercultural communication.
  • You will be well versed in the special requirements needed to manage internationally orientated supply chains.
  • You will be able to present and lead discussions in German and in English about the contents and concepts covered in the course of your studies.

Internships/Studies abroad/Erasmus

This Master' programme does not include an obligatory internship or study period abroad.

However, an internship or a study period abroad may be cmpleted in order to gain additional credit points if the student's undergraduate studies were only worth 180 credit points (ECTS).

The Department of Business has many active and productive ERASMUS partnerships with institutes of higher education throughout Europe, as well as other forms of partnership and exchange with universities in Europe, USA, Korea, Jordan and Australia.

You will be able to take advantage of this excellent departmental network to set up supplementary study options abroad.

In addition, the Department’s internship coordinator can halp you to find a place for an internship in Germany or abroad. The internship semester can also be an alternative way of earning further credit points if your Bachelor's degree  is only worth 180 credit points (ECTS).

Instruction and instructors

The quality of this programme is largely attributable to its organisational framework and the didactic skills of our experienced educators. Our team consists of professors, highly qualified staff lecturers and adjunct lecturers. Depending on the module, we also employ the services of guest speakers whose mother tongue is English, as well as guest lecturers from other tertiary institutes and other experts from the field. Our strength lies in conveying the skills and knowledge of SCM and logistics required in actual practice. During project work on a case study and in the preparation of your Master’s thesis, you will also learn the techniques of academic and scientific research, analysis and writing. This will prove especially beneficial should you decide to pursue a doctoral programme.

We prefer seminar-based teaching.  In other words, we encourage an active exchange between teachers and students. Traditional lectures tend to be an exception. Complex subject matter is taught through specific, comprehensible examples, case studies, and sometimes with the support of e-learning tasks and software (e.g. Excel and corporate strategic planning simulations).

Some of the classes are conducted in English. This gives you a valuable opportunity to familiarise yourself with subject specific terminology in English.

Students can access teaching material on the Department’s electronic platform “eFBW“, which is also a platform for communication between students and their professors and instructors.

Our classes and teaching are assessed towards the end of each semester as part of our quality assurance processes.
