Transforming the Understanding, Assessment and Prediction of Teamwork Effectiveness in Software Engineering Education using Machine Learning (Supported in part by NSF grant 1140172)

The goal of the proposed research is to transform the understanding, assessment and prediction of student learning and application of Software Engineering (SE) teamwork in the classroom. This will be achieved by:

  • a) discovering new factors that can objectively and quantitatively determine, assess and predict SE student learning teamwork outcomes by applying powerful ML data analysis techniques to objective and quantitative measures of student team activity;
  • b) by adapting and evaluating the findings for easy transferability and classroom use. This approach promises to transform the teaching of SE and to enable effective early interventions for students at risk.
