Making functional mock-ups

Functional mock-ups (FMU) are a suitable method to perform basic functional, ergonomic or simply assembly tests. In the lab, we use rapid prototyping technologies not only for mechanical FMUs, but also for electronics and software. The Rapid-Control-Prototyping in Automation (RCPiA) lecture combined these approaches, but is no longer offered due to capacity constraints. The 3D-printed aeroball test rig designed in 2013 was one of the first test rigs made with filament extrusion technologies and is still in use 10 years later. It was produced with a home-made  3D-printer.
