MakerLab@AT: #PrintingSculptures

3D printing of sculptures

When we designed a multi-charger for our mobile products in 2001, we were already using 3D printing, or more precisely stereolithography technology, to create functional models of the device housing and experiment with the power electronics and heat distribution in the device. Since then, several new technologies have emerged. Each is designed to meet specific requirements. A sculpture, for example, should have precise details.

We have studied only some of them. In 2015, we conducted some tests comparing different technologies with sculptures where functionality was not a priority. And a reference banana is mandatory to compare dimensions in a non-scientific way :-)
