Development of Methods and Tools for Virtual Product Presentation in 3D Community Photo Collections
The aim of PoP-EYE is the simple and photorealistic embedding of planning data and virtual products in spatially arranged 3D Community Photo Collections (CPC). For this purpose, the technologies of collaborative 3D reconstructions based on these image worlds as well as those of augmented reality (AR) are used.
Office furniture planning for new buildings is used as an application scenario in collaboration with the cooperation partner EasternGraphics. In this area, a high-quality presentation is of great benefit to both executing architects and building owners. The aim of the project is to create technologies and prototypes for virtual product presentation in 3D Community Photo Collections in the pre-competitive area, and to exploit these economically later through further developments. The aim of the cooperation partner is to transfer the project results into its commercial products in order to obtain a unique selling proposition. The advantage of PoP-EYE over known AR applications is that it greatly simplifies the creation of photo-realistic scenes.
This project is being carried out at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt in the Faculty of Building Services Engineering and Computer Science. Prof. Dr. Paul Grimm, appointed for graphic data processing in the Applied Computer Science degree programme, is leading this project. His research focuses on simplifying the creation process of virtual reality and augmented reality applications.
