Distributed and tangible user interfaces of web applications for people with disabilities.
The substantive aim of this project is to create and test a software-based distributed interaction and presentation system for web applications. As a proof-of-concept implementation, it is to be realised by means of physically interactive and intelligent computer cubes. The cubes have a touch-sensitive display, react to tilting, rotating and proximity to other cubes.
Based on this specification, concepts for distributed user interfaces are to be developed that enable a web application to be controlled using the cubes as a haptic alternative to traditional input methods. Part of this development work is on the one hand
- the conception of representation elements, rules and behaviour for a distributed and tangible user interface and on the other hand
- implementation, which includes the communication interface between the cubes and the web application.
The approach is prototypically implemented and tested for an existing web application.
The target group is people with cognitive impairments, for whom accessibility to the application is to be further increased on the basis of the project results.
