The doctoral research centre focuses on applied computer science as an interface between foundational research and practical orientation. Applied computer science can now be found in almost all areas of everyday life. Navigation systems, speech recognition programmes and intelligent user interfaces are just a few examples. Computer science also plays a major role in most other scientific disciplines, such as engineering, mathematics, medicine and business sciences.
The Hessian universities of applied sciences Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Fulda University of Applied Sciences and RheinMain University of Applied Sciences (hereinafter referred to as partner universities) each have the right to award doctoral degrees in the discipline of applied computer science, information and communication technologies.
The joint inter-university doctoral research centre Applied Computer Science, Information and Communication Technologies is an inter-university research facility of these partner universities in accordance with Section 47 of the Hesse Higher Education Act (HHG). The doctoral research centre serves as a networking platform for bundling research strengths in the context of the respective partner universities obtaining their own right to award doctoral degrees in this discipline and enables inter-university collaboration, so that doctoral candidates in this discipline are offered a suitable research environment.
