What are the studies in Science and Engineering about?

The study programme manages an interdisciplinary introduction to three engineering sciences in the first two semesters: Applied computer science, electrical engineering and food technology . In this way, students get to know different disciplines and acquire basic skills. In the third semester, the focus is placed on one of the above-mentioned areas.

The programme is designed for both international and German prospective students, especially those with a migration background.

The language of instruction in the basic study programme is English. This facilitates access to university studies for international students and supports the language skills of German students. From the beginning of the 3rd semester, courses are taught in German.

In addition to subject knowledge, linguistic, intercultural and social and cultural competences are taught.

Your profile

  • You are enthusiastic about natural sciences and technology.
  • It appeals to you to take a look at various engineering sciences across disciplines in order to then make a decision about the focus of your studies.
  • You want to be well prepared for the internationalisation of industry by learning languages.

Your requirements

  • You have a high school diploma, a vocational diploma or a master's degree.
  • You have sufficient knowledge of German (level B1) and English (level B2) to follow courses in German and English.

Study content and procedure

The Bachelor's degree programme in Science and Engineering starts in the winter semester. The standard period of study is 8 semesters (240 ECTS credits). In the first 2 semesters of the programme, general engineering basics (including mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry) are taught in English. An important competence goal of this "basic study programme" is learning the German language at the level of the DSH II examination (for students with German as their mother tongue, this is replaced by an equivalent foreign language offer). In an "orientation module", essential contents of the three offered specialisations (Applied Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Food Technology) are presented. This is intended to facilitate the choice of the specialisation programme (semesters 3 - 8).

Detailed information on the course of studies as well as the detailed description of the individual modules can be found in the current examination regulations (see quicklinks).

Career prospects

The degree programme prepares students for working in an international environment. Graduates acquire competences for planning, processing and evaluating technical tasks and problems in engineering subjects.
