Title of the PhD project: "Global crises and local conflicts? Interactions, repositionings and utopias using the example of land conflicts in Argentina".
Global crises cause or exacerbate local conflicts over land and other natural resources, especially in the global South. Due to intensifying global interconnections and networks as well as resource scarcity and the climate crisis, the significance of such global dynamics for local conflicts will continue to increase. Therefore, it is important to analyse how exactly global crisis processes become relevant to action for local actors in conflict contexts, so that a better understanding of land conflicts becomes possible.
Based on the observation that (land) conflicts in Argentina, in which parts of the indigenous Mapuche population and movement are involved, are characterised by intensifying conflict contexts, different conflicts are examined comparatively. The basic interest is to gain a better understanding of both the selected (land) conflicts and how global dynamics influence local conflicts and lead to repositionings and alternative visions of the future of the actors involved.
Procedure and milestones:
The data was collected during a one-year research stay in Argentina using appropriate methods of qualitative empirical social research.
