Title of the PhD project: Integration of Syrian Refugees in Higher Education System in Host Countries. A comparative study between Germany and Jordan. The role of Transculturalism: Education and Language.
Education is a key means of integrating the refugee population into their host countries and preventing permanent deficits in the human development of young people affected by the conflict. It is assumed that today's cultures are composed of different cultural identities and have transnational contours. The term transcultural society refers both to the crossing of borders and to their overcoming or elimination. My dissertation deals with the question of how refugee students in post-migrant societies benefit from transcultural concepts in the higher education system. Jordan and Germany are examples of host countries examined in this research project, where different cultures clash. I argue that education in today's universities should provide innovative solutions by incorporating elements of different cultures and working together. This dissertation explores the aspects of transculturality in the higher education system by conducting and analysing interviews with refugee students and experts at universities in Jordan and Germany. The dissertation is originally written in English and subsequently translated into German.
