The coronavirus that broke out in China in December 2019 has developed into a global pandemic that affects all societies. However, it is observed that the handling of the pandemic differs significantly in different countries: Either a hard lockdown with immediate effect and strict measures in China and other Asian countries or the freedom and democracy respected measures, also called herd immunity, in Europe and the USA.
As can be observed, people react differently on the individual level from country to country. The research target group of the project are the expatriates of German and Chinese companies. Methodologically, narrative interviews will be used to capture the expatriates' life experiences during the pandemic and their problems in the world of work as well as in their private lives. The data will be analysed using grounded theory.
