Food is a central topic in our society, with technological, economic, nutritional, social and ethical aspects, all of which are incorporated into our training.
We want to get you excited about these topics.
The Department of Food Technology has set itself the goal of training applied engineers with a broad technical competence in the production of food and the development of processes and products. This also includes an adept handling of food-specific issues relating to the market economy, legislation and marketing.
The field of activity is diverse. Food technologists work in the dynamic field of tension between optimisation and sustainability, regionality and internationality. They are involved in the entire value chain, from harvesting to packaging and marketing food. We therefore want to offer our students a broad range of training programmes. Our training concept is not product-focused, but extends from animal and plant-based foods to cosmetic and pharmacological applications. To this end, we offer a food technology and a business engineering Bachelor's degree programme.
In addition to the Bachelor's degrees, you can also take a course on our consecutive research-oriented Master's programme in Food Processing, which can also be part-time if required, and complete your university studies with a doctoral thesis at the department.
The global orientation of training at the department is characterised by a Bachelor's degree with an integrated year abroad, English-language options and a wide range of doctoral programmes.
