System registrations at the start of the study programme: checklist
To help you get off to a good start with your university studies, we have put together a comprehensive checklist of points that you should definitely have checked before starting your studies. We will be happy to help you with this.
What?
| To Do | Done? |
| Upload photo |
How?
After matriculation, you will receive a request (by email) together with your matriculation documents to upload a photo for your chip card. Once you have uploaded the photo, your chip card will be created and sent to you by post. You can find more information online at hs-fulda.de/chip-card
Why do you need it?
The chip card is both a student identity and a semester ticket. It also serves as a library card, contactless payment card in the cafeteria and photocopier card.
What?
| To Do | Done? |
| Receive student user identification number | |
| Initial password changed | |
| fd number and password memorised (or noted down) |
How do you do this?
You will receive your fd number and an initial password by email after matriculation. Change the initial password as soon as possible and follow the instructions provided. You can find further information online at hs-fulda.de > University studies > Information for students > Student user identification
Why?
The fd number is the user identification for all Central University Administration services. You can use the number to ...
- read and write emails to your university email address
- log into the university organisation system Horstl
- register in the university and department network
- log into the university's WLAN
What?
| To Do | done? |
| Received (and memorised) university email address | |
| Tested access to webmail or set up client |
How?
Together with your enrolment documents you will receive an email address, usually vorname.nachname@lt.hs-fulda.de. With your student user identification number you can access your emails via webmail.hs-fulda.de. After receiving the letter, it may take up to two weeks for the email address to be activated. If you have any problems, please contact the IT Support at support@rz.hs-fulda.de.
Why?
You will receive all binding information from the university to this email address. You should therefore check it regularly! Your communication with the members of the department will also take place exclusively via this email address.
What?
| To Do | Done? |
| Access to Horstl tested | |
| Checked personal data in Horstl |
How?
Log in to horstl via horstl.hs-fulda.de. You can access Horstl using your student user identification number. If you need help, you can find more information in the IT Support documentation wiki.
Why?
In horstl you can, among other things ...
- register for courses
- register for examinations
- view your programme structure
- create certificates
- update your personal data
What?
| To Do | Done? |
| Registration in Moodle completed | |
| Profile filled out completely and correctly |
How?
Log in via elearning.hs-fulda.de/lt. When registering for the first time, you will need to register with your student user identification number and create a profile. Enter your university e-mail address and matriculation number. If you have any problems, please contact the eLearning lab.
Why is this necessary?
Moodle is an internal departmental communication platform. You can find important information about courses and examinations on the noticeboard. You will also find all the necessary materials for your courses in the course area. As soon as you have taken a course in Horstl, you will automatically be transferred to the corresponding courses in Moodle.
What?

| Online access to the library set up |
How to do it?
The library account is automatically set up for you as a student of the university. Before using it for the first time, set a password (the email will automatically be sent to your university email address!) You will find your personal ID number on the back of the chip card.
Instructions for setting up online access can be found in your enrolment documents and online at hs-fulda.de/hlb > Service > Loans > Library card > for students of HS Fulda If you have any problems, please use the email address service@hlb.hs-fulda.de.
