Topic/content

When it comes to health literacy - i.e. the ability to find, understand, assess and use health information - the framework conditions, requirements and complexity of organisations play a central role in addition to the individual abilities of people. The relational approach to health literacy is known under the concept of organisational health literacy. It refers to the ability of organisations to provide health information and services in such a way that patients, clients and their relatives can easily understand and use them.

Although the concept of organisational health literacy has gained considerable importance in recent years both in research and in practice in German-speaking countries, the studies to date indicate that the concept has not yet been systematically anchored in practical implementation. The doctoral project therefore investigates the possibilities for sustainable implementation of the concept of organisational health literacy in health care, including in the areas of quality management, occupational health management and professional education.

In order to achieve the research objective, experts from the fields of Quality Management, Health Care Management and professional education, continuing education and training of health care professionals will be interviewed on the topic of implementing the concept of organisational health literacy in the structures and processes of health care. By combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the aim is to gain practical insights and develop a needs-oriented concept as well as concrete recommendations for action for a sustainable implementation of the concept of organisational health literacy in health care.
