Nursing research

Regardless of their age, people may find themselves in situations where they or their relatives need (professional) care. Here, regardless of age or life phases, care expertise is needed and actors in care need knowledge, skills, competences and resources to be able to provide services professionally.

Nursing research first looks for answers to questions from people who find themselves in such situations and are dependent on professional advice, guidance and help with nursing-related concerns. At the same time, it focuses on (care) actors in the health care system. With our research activities, we pursue questions in different contexts such as: "What does a person need (as a recipient or as a provider of care-related services), how can their own resources be used meaningfully, and what support is appropriate and effective?" With these practice-relevant questions, we focus - systematically researching - persons, institutions and organisations as well as the (professional and educational) political (framework) conditions of care.

Our research activities are currently focused on concepts of person-orientation in different situations. The focus is on emotional work in nursing, on human-human as well as human-technology interactions, on network research as well as on competence development in academic nursing (training). Methods of systematic literature work and empirical social research are applied, especially ethnographic approaches.

As nursing scientists at the Department of Nursing and Health, we contribute with our research activities to generating and systematising knowledge and offering it to all those who benefit from it.
