GesundFDM is a joint project on the topic of research data management (FDM) for the health-, therapy- and nursing-related sciences.
The health and nursing sciences are well established at universities of applied sciences (HAWs), but there is hardly any explicit research data management there so far. Therefore, the foundations are to be created for the health, therapy and nursing sciences, as well as for midwifery and health-related social work, so that the research data used there is better available and reusable through professional research data management (FDM). In addition, the professional and institutional connection to the FDM community, especially in the form of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and the NFDI4Health consortium, is to be achieved.
The joint project "GesundFDM" is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with the aim of strengthening research data management at universities of applied sciences (HAW).

- Project duration: 01.11.2022 - 30.10.2025
- Network coordination: Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences
- Funding: Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
The overarching goal of the project is to achieve a sustainable anchoring of FDM for researchers and teachers in the health, therapy and nursing sciences as well as in health-related social work and to ensure the availability and reusability of this socially highly relevant data.
Linked to this are the subordinate strategic goals:
- Increaseawareness of FDM among researchers from the health and care-related sciences.
- Enhancedata competencies of researchers from health and care-related sciences
- Establish sustainable collaborations with relevant infrastructures and data centres to ensure availability in line with FAIR principles.
- Maintain thecompetitiveness of HAWs for research funding in the field of health and care-related sciences
- Establishprofessional and institutional links with the NFDI so that HAWs are given greater consideration and participation in the NFDI.
- Achieve sustainable integration of the professional societies in order to address the user-driven orientation and design of the subject-specific requirements through this
- As part of a cooperation between several HAWs from Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, a community platform is being set up as a central information and communication hub for researchers in the health and care-related sciences.
- Concrete needs will be identified in the form of user stories.
- Concepts for training and consultation for subject-specific FDM will be developed and tested. The target groups include researchers as well as students and doctoral candidates.
- Common standards as well as guidelines and recommendations will be developed on the basis of best practice examples.
- Cooperation with relevant professional societies and data centres, the NFDl4Health consortium and state initiatives on FDM will also be initiated.
- The participants create awareness for the topic of FDM and offer active support in managing and sharing data.
