Interlibrary loan

Interlibrary loan is a service provided by the library enabling you to borrow items not available here from other libraries.
You need an interlibrary loan account to place an order. This can be set up for you at the service desk during service hours. Please bring your library card with you.
Teaching staff and other employees at Fulda University can do this at the Campus location. Students can choose between locations.

What can I order?

Basically, all kinds of literature can be ordered.
Exceptions:

  • Items available at the HLB. This also applies if items are currently on loan. Bachelor’s (and other) theses.
  • Books that cost less than €15.
  • Fiction and books on hobbies.
  • Articles from newspapers and non-scientific magazines.
  • Special formats, e.g. larger formats, loose-leaf binder, CDs, etc.
  • Items from non-lending libraries and the German National Library

In rare cases, it is possible that only a copy of the requested item can be provided or a loan request may be rejected.

How can I place an order?

  1. Search in FILIP for the name of your publication. Also check the tab “databases”. If you are looking for an essay from a journal, please search for the name of the journal!
  2. If you don’t get any matches, click “interlibrary loan” at the bottom of the page.
  3. Select a title from the hit list in “Hebis” and click “request”.
  4. Log in by selecting “Fulda: Hochschul- und Landesbibliothek” and enter your regular library card number and password.
  5. Order the publication.
  6. Complete the order form, e.g. details of the desired journal article.
  7. Enter your password again and click “send”.

If you are unable to find the publication you are looking for, you can place a “blank request” (on the left side). Fill in as many details as possible.

How much does it cost?

The processing fee for an order is €1.50 and must be paid in advance. In rare cases when it is not possible to fulfil your request, the fee cannot be refunded.
You must pay the processing fee at the automatic pay station during service hours and then bring the receipt to the service desk. The staff will register the amount in your interlibrary loan account.
In some cases, additional costs may have to be paid when you collect your order.

Different rules apply to Fulda University employees.
Please contact the staff at the service desk during service hours.

Where do I collect my orders?

You will receive an email notification as soon as the item is available. Orders can be picked up at the service desk in the location where your interlibrary account is registered.

How long is the loan period?

The loan period is usually four weeks. The lending library can shorten the loan period or place restrictions on use (e.g. restrict the use to the reading room or impose a ban on photocopying). Note: the loan period starts as soon as the item arrives at the library!
In most cases, it is also possible to renew the loan period. Please apply for renewal at the service desk at least three to four days before the due date, stating the order number. You cannot renew items online through your library account.

Essays are usually delivered as print copies and do not have to be returned

Are there other options?

We can order items that are not available in Germany through the International Library Loan service. Please contact the service desk to place an order. Please note that international library loans are more expensive and will take longer to deliver.
You agree to pay the costs when you sign a cost coverage form. These costs vary according to lending library and country.

As an alternative to interlibrary loans, you can use document delivery services. You can place an order yourself and have books or copies delivered straight to the desired address. You usually have to register before using the service.
Please note: all of these delivery services are subject to a fee.
