Pre-College Fulda Curriculum

The Pre-College programme lasts two semesters and starts once a year in the winter semester (October). Classes are held five days a week (Monday to Friday) from 9.00 to 16.00.

Important: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pre-College classes in the winter semester 2020/21 will initially take place remotely. Participation requires a reliable internet connection with a computer or laptop with microphone and camera (mobile phones and tablets are not suitable).

Participants complete various modules in two semesters. These include:

German lessons and additional modules

  • German lessons at levels B2 and C1 in preparation for the telc Deutsch C1 test
  • Additional courses to improve German language skills, e.g. debating sessions
  • Project class, e.g. podcast workshop

Pre-Study preparation

  • Insights into university study through participation in regular courses and relevant assessments, supported by "buddies"
  • Introduction to the German system of study
  • Learning the techniques of academic research

Career preparation

  • Career orientation and application training for the German job market
  • Insights into the working world through job shadowing programmes and company visits in the economic region of Fulda and completion of a three-week orientation placement

Intercultural training

  • Introduction to the concept of culture and awareness of cultural differences
  • Development of intercultural skills and knowledge of the country

Winter semester

Period: October to March

Modules:

  • B2 level German lessons
  • Debating sessions to improve German language skills
  • Intercultural training
  • Career orientation and application training
  • Orientation placement
  • Digital media and communication

Work to be completed:

  • B2 test at the beginning of March
  • Orientation placement certificate
  • Assignments and papers depending on modules

Summer semester

Period: April to August

Modules:

  • C1 level German lessons
  • Debating sessions to improve German language skills
  • Intercultural training
  • Career orientation and application training
  • Specialist courses depending on chosen programme
  • Academic research

Work to be completed:

  • C1 test at the beginning of August
  • Examinations in specialist courses
  • Assignments and papers depending on modules
