UAS.International - Internationalisation of Universities of Applied Sciences

Hochschulen für angewandte Wissenschaften (HAW) – or universities of applied sciences (UASs) – prepare students for highly qualified positions in the German and international labour markets, thus laying the foundations for the economic success of numerous businesses and organisations in their respective regions. International networking plays an increasingly important role for small and medium-sized companies and organisations in rural regions.

This growing demand for a qualified workforce coupled with an ongoing shortage of qualified professionals in Germany is presenting international, practice-oriented academic programmes at UASs with many new challenges. Businesses, organisations and public institutions therefore need employees with an international education and relevant language and intercultural skills. Working together closely, the economy in general and universities have to address these new qualification requirements by internationalising curricula, engaging in international collaborations and offering low-threshold exchange programmes.

DAAD wants to promote the internationalisation of universities of applied sciences across the board and at all levels of university teaching with a comprehensive funding option.

Fulda University of Applied Sciences has successfully acquired around 1.5 million euros from this line of funding to finance two projects:

In the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences in Module A (projects for exploratory and preparatory purposes): HAWFulda.International; Funding period: 01.10.2019 – 31.12.2021

In the Department of Social and Cultural Sciences in Module B (model and cooperation projects to promote international collaborations between universities): Transnational Governance and Human Rights; Funding period: 01.01.2021 – 31.12.2024
