Linguistic and intercultural preparation

Requirements

In order to be able to study successfully at a foreign university, you should have a command of the language of instruction at the host university at the B2 level by the time you leave the country at the latest. Many of our European partner universities require this proof of language proficiency at the time of your application. Please check the language requirements of your host university in good time or come to us at the International Office - we will be happy to advise you.

The European Commission has an online language test for the following languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Spanish or Swedish. For more information, please visit the following website: http://erasmusplusols.eu.

A note for you: You must take the test for placement before you start and after you finish your stay in the language of instruction, unless you are a native speaker. This way, your progress in language acquisition can be recorded. You can access the test through the Erasmus coordinator. However, the test result is not a selection criterion for funding in the Erasmus+ programme. If the result is below B2, you will automatically receive access to a free EU online language course. Participation in this course is then compulsory for you.

Language courses

The International Office will subsidise a private language course in the host country that you wish to take in the local language (except English) before the start of your semester abroad. The language course must have a minimum duration of 2 weeks and must be successfully completed. The application for a grant is made informally by submitting the original invoice and the certificate of attendance. The amount of the grant is recalculated annually.

If your language of instruction or the national language is one of the above-mentioned languages, you can apply for a licence for a free EU online language course from the Erasmus coordinator in the International Office.

You should also inform yourself in good time about the language courses offered by the Language Centre at Fulda University of Applied Sciences.

Intercultural Training

The International Office offers free intercultural training every semester (May/November) as preparation for the semester abroad. This is a face-to-face seminar in English with a duration of 12 units. If you are interested, already nominated Erasmus students can register with the Erasmus coordinator in the International Office.
