Students and doctoral candidates with fewer opportunities

Inclusion and equal opportunities for potential funding recipients is a central concern of the Erasmus programme. Students and doctoral candidates with fewer opportunities have the opportunity to receive additional funding (top-up) for a semester abroad.

You will find the self-declarations and detailed information graded for the application in your workflow in Mobility Online (online application portal) after you have been accepted to the Erasmus programme.

Equal treatment and equal opportunities
By signing the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), every higher education institution commits to providing equal access and equivalent opportunities to all those receiving funding. Participants with fewer opportunities include students who belong to one of the following four groups:

Students with child/children

If you are taking at least one child with you during the entire period abroad, you can receive a top-up of €250 per month, regardless of the number of children you are taking with you. If you are attending a Blended Intensive program, you will receive a one-off top-up of €100. Please present your child's birth certificate and travel documents.

First-time academics (students from a non-academic background)

If neither of your parents has a university degree, you can receive a top-up of €250 per month. If you are attending a Blended Intensive program, you will receive a one-off top-up of €100. You will need to complete and sign the International Office's self-declaration form.

Working students

If you have worked regularly for six months prior to the start of the mobility programme without interruption and your monthly gross income is above €450 and below €850 and you are in a contractual relationship subject to social insurance contributions (at least pension insurance), you can receive a top-up of €250 per month. If you attend a blended intensive program, you will receive a one-off top-up of €100. Students on dual study programmes and self-employed persons are exempt from this regulation.

Participants with a disability or chronic illness

Grantees with a proven degree of disability (GdB) of at least 20 or a chronic illness with additional financial needs abroad can submit a real cost application and receive a maximum additional grant of €15,000 per semester in addition to the regular Erasmus mobility grant for university studies or internships. To apply for additional funding, please contact the International Office, which will prepare the application for real costs with you and then submit it to the NA DAAD.
Students studying with a disability (GdB) of at least 20 will receive a top-up of € 250 per month without application upon presentation of a disabled person's ID card or notification from the state social welfare office. If you attend a Blended Intensive program, you will receive a one-off top-up of €100.

When preparing your Erasmus stay, please let us know your situation and estimate the additional costs you are likely to incur during your Erasmus+ mobility or in the host country.
