On this page you will find information about funding opportunities for your stay abroad.

With Erasmus+ you finance stays abroad in the European programme countries. You can find all the important informationhere

Stays abroad (studies or internships) can be funded upon separate application. What is not possible: Simply take the BAföG funding you receive in Germany with you abroad.
Depending on the destination country, various central international offices are responsible for BAföG funding abroad.

What is funded?

In addition to your needs, the following costs are covered during a stay abroad:

  • Foreign allowances (only outside the EU)
  • Health insurance abroad (in the funding type 50% subsidy, 50% interest-free loan)
  • additional travel allowances
  • for verifiably necessary tuition fees for a maximum of one year up to 5,600 euros/year as a grant

Scholarships from other programmes (e.g. Promos or Erasmus+) remain free of charge up to 300€/month.

The DAAD funding programme is aimed at German and international students. Semester stays are funded with a monthly partial scholarship instalment and a flat-rate travel allowance, internships only with a flat-rate travel allowance.

In its internationalisation strategy, Fulda University of Applied Sciences aims to increase the number of stays abroad by students. In order to financially support students' stays abroad, each department - weighted according to the number of its students - receives a share from the QSL programme.

What is funded?

  • non-European study visits with a minimum duration of 3 months
  • non-European internship stays with a minimum duration of 2 months, which are recognised by the faculties.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports students at HAW/FH in their stays abroad.
Students in Bachelor's, Master's and Diploma programmes at German HAW/FH receive scholarships in this programme for a stay abroad as part of their studies or final thesis.

There are again three application deadlines in 2023 for the HAW individual scholarships for semester stays, final theses and internships:

  • 28.02.23 for scholarships starting between July and October 2023
  • 30.06.23 for scholarships to begin between November 23 and February 2024
  • 31.10.23 for scholarships starting between March and June 2024

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports HAW/FH students during their stays abroad.
The "Congress and Trade Fair Travel" programme enables students, doctoral candidates and scientists at universities of applied sciences and universities of applied sciences (HAW/FH) to actively participate in international conferences and trade fairs abroad. Those receiving funding can establish new contacts in international science networks and maintain existing contacts.

The aim of the programme "HAW.International: Internships Abroad for Students" is to support students of HAW/FH in carrying out internships abroad, thus enabling them to gain practical experience in an international context. The stays abroad also offer the opportunity to gain intercultural experience and to acquire or deepen foreign language skills. In this way, the programme contributes to qualifying students for the international job market.

The Begabtenförderungswerke also support stays abroad.

In addition, there are numerous foundations that support, for example, students from a certain region, with a specific subject focus, project, etc.

For training-related stays abroad, a low-interest education loan can be granted - irrespective of income (maximum 24 monthly instalments of €300 each).
