Funding

Funding opportunities

Your stay abroad should not fail because of the funding. We have compiled the most important funding opportunities for you. Please note that although you can apply for several scholarships, you may only receive one.

Stays abroad (studies or internships) can be funded upon separate application. What is not possible: Simply take the BAföG funding you receive in Germany with you abroad.

Depending on the destination country, various central international offices are responsible for BAföG funding abroad.

What is funded?

In addition to your needs, the following costs are covered during a stay abroad:

  • Foreign allowances (only outside the EU)
  • Health insurance abroad (in the funding type 50% subsidy, 50% interest-free loan)
  • additional travel allowances
  • for verifiably necessary tuition fees for a maximum of one year up to 4,600 euros/year as a grant

Scholarships from other programmes (e.g. Promos or Erasmus+) remain free of charge up to 300€/month.
