Planning your stay in Fulda

Before you can take up your position at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, a number of pieces of evidence and documents must be submitted to Fulda University of Applied Sciences Human Resources Management. On the following pages, human resources management has compiled all the important information for you. The Welcome Centre will also be happy to assist you before you arrive.

To enable us to customise our services to your needs, please complete this enrolment form and send it to us at least two months before your arrival.

If you have a chronic illness or impairment and require support, please indicate this on the enrolment form. This information is mandatory according to insurance conditions in Germany and will also help the Welcome Centre to offer you appropriate support during your stay.

Visiting lecturers and visiting academics from member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area do not require a visa to enter the Federal Republic of Germany.

Visiting lecturers and visiting scientists from non-European countries must apply for a visa at the German Embassy or German Consulate in their home country. However, citizens from some non-European countries do not require a visa if they are staying in Germany for less than 90 days. These countries include the USA, Australia, Canada, Brazil and Singapore.

Non-EU citizens who wish to stay in Germany for longer than three months and work at Fulda University of Applied Sciences require a visa that explicitly allows them to take up employment in Germany. You can apply for such a visa at the German Embassy in your home country.

If you need to apply for a visa for Germany:

  1. Please contact the German Embassy in your home country. A list of all German embassies and their contact addresses can be found here

    Please make an appointment online with your nearest German embassy.
  2. The Fulda University of Applied Sciences will issue you with a letter of invitation and other necessary documents.
  3. Please make sure that you have a valid passport. It is not advisable to enter with a tourist visa.

Fulda University of Applied Sciences offers its guests - visiting lecturers and doctoral candidates - comfortable and attractive flats for the duration of their stay.

Fulda University of Applied Sciences has several guest flats near the campus. One flat is also suitable for families.
