Fulda University of Applied Sciences fielded the largest active team in the Fulda City Cycling Challenge

As in previous years, the highlight of the 2026 FahrRad semester was attendance at STADTRADELN. STADTRADELN is all about covering as many everyday journeys as possible by bike in a climate-friendly way over a period of 21 days. Teams within municipalities compete in competition against one another based on the kilometres cycled, and a ranking of the most successful municipalities is compiled across Germany.

In Fulda, STADTRADELN took place this year from 17 May to 6 June 2026. Among the 35 teams taking part, Fulda University of Applied Sciences fielded the largest team with 57 active participants – a fantastic achievement! The kilometres cycled by the university’s staff and students are also impressive; with 7,288 km, the team came seventh in the local ranking. This figure is particularly impressive as it was achieved mainly through numerous short journeys rather than a few long ones. The members of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences team completed 884 individual journeys, thereby avoiding the equivalent of 1,195 kgof CO₂ that would have been emitted by car journeys.

To recognise this achievement and celebrate it together, the Sports Centre / University sports programme / activities / programme of activities offered by the Sports Centre hosted an event on 2 July to mark the end of the ‘FahrRad’ semester. On this occasion, the University’s Vice-President for Personnel and Finance, Dr Anke Günther, thanked the participating members of the university community for their commitment and praised the excellent result. Anna Höfler, AStA assistant for health and nutrition, emphasised above all the social aspects of cycling that bring people together. As well as an exchange about cycling and cycling infrastructure at the university and in Fulda, prizes were also raffled off amongst all active participants in the STADTRADELN challenge as part of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences team. The winners were delighted to receive sports shirts or sports socks, which they can wear on their future cycling trips.
