50 midwives complete university studies in Fulda

The ceremonial presentation of the Bachelor's degree certificates took place on Tuesday in Hall 8 of the university. Numerous relatives, friends, instructors and representatives of the cooperating clinics accompanied the graduates on this special day. The course was all about recognition, gratitude and the transition into a responsible profession.

Right at the beginning, programme director Ina Weisbecker emphasised the special significance of the day. She addressed her thanks not only to the families and personal environment of the graduates, but also expressly to the practice supervisors and partner clinics who had closely accompanied the training. At the same time, she emphasised how demanding the past academic years had been - characterised by intensive learning phases, practical assignments and emotional experiences. The midwifery profession is a profession with great responsibility, as midwives accompany families in particularly sensitive and formative living conditions.

Professor Clara Eidt also praised the ceremony as a special moment in the history of the study programme. It was the first time that students from two campus locations had graduated together. In her speech, she looked back on the past academic years and recalled the challenges posed by the pandemic in particular. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the students had gained extensive practical experience and developed both personally and professionally. Memories and shared experiences were formative for the rest of their lives and had a sustainable impact on the graduates.

Professor Johanna Neumeyer, who addressed the graduates via video message from Vietnam, also made a personal and vivid contribution. She compared university studies to a challenging mountain hike that requires endurance, strength and support. The path was not always easy, but thanks to the support of family, friends, fellow students and practical supervisors, the students achieved their goal. They can now look back on their social services: benefits with pride and start their professional future with confidence.

Fulda University of Applied Sciences has been one of the pioneers of academic midwifery training in Germany for many years. Long before the nationwide reform of midwifery, the university had already developed and continuously expanded a corresponding study model. An important part of the concept is the close collaboration with regional clinics and practical placement partners, which enables students to gain practical experience at an early stage.

During the ceremony, the importance of the practical instructors was emphasised several times, as they had passed on their knowledge and experience with great commitment. Thanks were also expressed to the families and loved ones who had supported the graduates during the demanding training period.

The handing over of the degrees marked the end of an important phase in the lives of the 50 young midwives. At the same time, they are now embarking on a profession that demands medical competence, empathy and a sense of responsibility in equal measure.
