June 2026: Major alumni network meeting of Pre College Fulda
For people who wish to study or train for a profession in Germany but do not yet meet all the conditions, the Pre-College offer at Fulda University of Applied Sciences offers the solution. During this preparatory year – the only one of its kind in Germany – prospective students gain the university entrance qualification for Fulda University of Applied Sciences and also establish professional contacts in the Fulda region and eastern Hesse at an early stage. Now, more than 50 graduates and practical placement partners of this program – which is supported by the European Social Fund and the State of Hesse – have come together to highlight the successful blend of international and regional elements in the Fulda area.
During the Pre-College programme, participants attend specialist courses in a chosen department at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, complete an internship with a local enterprise and improve their German skills to C1 level. At the event on Wednesday evening, the graduates, practical placement partners and international affairs assistants from Fulda University of Applied Sciences’ departments gathered to further network with one another and share insights and experiences with current Pre-College participants. There was also a workshop for Pre-College alumni on the topic of ‘Being well prepared for examinations during university studies’.
Alumni share success stories
The Pre-College coordinators at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Dr Pouneh Ghaemdoust and Susan Höntzsch, summed up the evening afterwards: “The atmosphere was fantastic. It makes us proud to see how the alumni have progressed. To hear them talk so enthusiastically about their university studies, and to see that some of them have even already completed their degrees and are now working.”
Michael Konow, Chief Executive of the Fulda Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) – who also sits on Fulda University of Applied Sciences’ University Council – attended the course as an ambassador for the Pre-College programme. He emphasised the importance of the Pre-College programme: “We all rely on international skilled workers in the Fulda district. We – and I personally – therefore support this program run by Fulda University of Applied Sciences, and we hope that there are many enterprises in the region willing to offer these people from all over the world the chance of an internship.”
