Statement by the Presidential Board

30 Oct 2025
Campus of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences

Fulda University of Applied Sciences takes a clear stance against discrimination and violence.

In recent weeks, there have been several incidents of threats, damage to property and the display of discriminatory symbols on the campus of Fulda University of Applied Sciences. Most recently, posters for a Central University Administration course and office doors were vandalised. The Presidential Board takes these incidents very seriously and wants to take a clear and unequivocal stance when it comes to how we treat each other on our campus.

People of different origins, religions, world views and identities learn, teach and work at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. Universities are places of open dialogue. Arguments, reason and tolerance are what count here. Fulda University of Applied Sciences stands for open, respectful and diverse cooperation, characterised by objective debate and critical thinking. Controversial discussions are part of academic and university life - but not hatred, agitation or violence.

There is no place for anti-Semitism, racism or any form of discrimination or group-based misanthropy at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. An attitude that is sensitive to discrimination and a willingness for self-reflection are fundamental conditions for this. This also includes the obligation to actively contribute to a respectful, open and constructive culture of communication and conflict. We are committed to a culture of dialogue in which different experiences, perspectives and narratives can be discussed and negotiated in a spirit of mutual respect - in university studies, teaching and research alike.

All members of the university community have a responsibility, derived from human rights and the German Basic Law, to ensure that the campus remains a place for everyone. The Presidential Board responds consistently to incidents and examines appropriate measures in accordance with university regulations and applicable law.

All students and employees who are exposed to discriminatory hostility or feel unsafe are advised to contact the Presidential Board or the relevant offices:

Contact person for anti-discrimination: Anna-Lena Kökgiran
Contact person for anti-Semitism: Tina Enders

We encourage all members of the university community to register incidents, speak up about discriminatory behaviour and support those affected.
