The Department of Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences sees itself as a community whose work is guided by the values of respect, appreciation, open communication and interdisciplinary exchange. Systemic thinking is the basics of our actions in teaching, practice and research.
Teaching
We provide our students with a comprehensive preparation for future professional and social challenges in the fields of nutrition, health and food. We offer them high-quality learning programmes that are geared towards current topics with a strong practical and application focus. We ensure individual supervision of students, taking into account their different abilities, competences and interests. Students develop a high level of subject, social and media competence through contemporary interdisciplinary teaching and learning conditions. They acquire strong analytical, critical and problem-solving skills. Our graduates have up-to-date knowledge and are characterised by socially responsible action in a global context.
Practice and networking
Close networking with practice is our strength. As a department, we maintain intensive cooperation with practical placement partners from business, politics and civil society at regional, national and international level. Our alumni are an important link between us and practice - a network that we are actively nursing and constantly expanding. The professional success of our graduates is an important criterion for our training related to practice.
Research
The Department of Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences sees itself as a research-based department that realises a close link between application-oriented research and teaching. An important concern for us is the funding of junior researchers. To this end, we work with students in our research projects and specifically initiate doctoral degrees, which we supervise in a structured manner. Our nationally and internationally orientated research activities address current academic and practical issues as well as social and forward-looking problems. Our strength is our interdisciplinary orientation, which enables us to define and work on new fields of research and development. We cultivate a research culture characterised by transparent and responsible communication with the public.
