Microbiology laboratory Building 46, Room 235

An important part of Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences is microbiology, in particular food microbiology and food and environmental hygiene.

The microbiological laboratory works on

  • assessing and ensuring the microbiological quality of foodstuffs
  • Hygiene measures in food processing and communal catering
  • the effect of bioactive substances on microorganisms

resources

In addition to the standard equipment for microbiological and microscopic work, the laboratory is equipped with, among other things

  • a microtitre plate photometer and a growth analyser, e.g. for determining growth curves under different conditions
  • equipment for determining the water activity of foods using various methods
  • with climatic cabinets for storage tests under controlled conditions
  • with "data loggers" for continuous monitoring of temperature and humidity during the storage and heat treatment of foodstuffs

Molecular biology and fluorescence microscopy techniques can also be used with the joint use of equipment in the Molecular and Cell Biology laboratory of the Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences department.

The microbiology laboratory is admitted for work with microorganisms that cause food infections and poisoning.

There are 16 workstations available.
