Visa Delay

Our faculty organises induction days for all new students – these take place on our campus in Fulda.

If you are unable to attend the induction weeks in person, we will send you further details by email so that you can read up on the most important information before you arrive in Fulda.

For this reason, too, it is important that you let us know your arrival date so that we know who will actually be attending and to whom we need to send information.

Even if you are not present, lectures will begin according to the university’s timetable.

Students who arrive a little later than the start of the semester will probably have to catch up on the lectures they have missed. However, this gap should not be too great. Based on our experience, we therefore strongly recommend that, if your arrival date is after 15 May (summer semester) or 15 November (winter semester), you should start your lectures in the following semester.

Please note that this does not mean you cannot come to Fulda. You can prepare accordingly, familiarise yourself with our campus and your new surroundings, and catch up on the course material you have missed. This would make it easier for you to settle into the coming semester. However, please be aware that you will incur costs in Germany from the moment of matriculation, and your programme structure is likely to be delayed – we would like to draw your attention to this!

Please note: FAQ “Can my admission be postponed to a later semester?”

Most examinations take place in the second half of July (summer term) or in the second half of February (winter term) and require you to be present on the campus.

Your admission cannot be deferred to a later semester. Once you have received your letter of admission, you must therefore decide whether or not you wish to proceed with enrolment. If you proceed with enrolment, you can benefit from our waiting list policy, as described above. If you do not enrol (or if you withdraw), you will lose your place on the course and will have to apply again for a later semester. In this case, your new application will not be given any special priority.

However, you will still incur costs for enrolment, and your programme structure

As a campus-based university, we place a strong emphasis on classroom teaching and – generally speaking – do not offer online or hybrid lectures.

If you arrive late, you will still have to pay the semester fees, as you have an enrolment as a student at our university. This applies even if you are physically unable to be here.
