PHN Guidance Standards
The main objective of this research project was to create a basis for evidence-based decision-making processes in the public health nutrition sector. To this end, the development of an evidence-based approach for the systematic and standardised evaluation of public health nutrition measures was advanced.
As a starting point for the conceptual considerations, specific requirements of Public Health Nutrition (PHN) were elaborated and a model proposal was developed using existing evidence-based concepts and approaches as well as the integration of tested methods and instruments. In addition, an application test was carried out using a concrete practical example, the population-wide reduction of cooking salt.
As a result of this project, which was the subject of a PhD project, a model was developed that identified four areas that make up the model of an evidence-based PHN by means of action guiding questions. These areas form a cycle of action that leads from the initial question to the synthesis of the required evidence (see Figure 1).
