Studienerfolg durch datengestütztes Monitoring und individuelle Beratung

General project description

The project "Study success through data-based monitoring and individual counselling (MoBeS)" is a measure funded by the HMWK from the programme "High quality in studies and teaching, good framework conditions for studies (QuiS)" for all departments and all study programmes at the HFD to improve individual study success and the quality assurance of study programmes. It combines three different types of monitoring to be implemented, (1) individual student monitoring, (2) health monitoring, (3) study programme monitoring, each of which pursues different goals, but are interlinked with each other, and as an overall concept aims at quality assurance of studies and teaching and improved study success.

Project duration: 01.10.2021 - 31.12.2025

The aim of individual student monitoring is to obtain information as early as possible about which students are at risk of dropping out (e.g. because their previous course of study suggests this) through targeted data analysis. Subsequently, the affected students are contacted by the departments and offered individual support and counselling options. In order to make access to students as low-threshold as possible, the counselling activities in the departments are to be further professionalised. In addition, opportunities for exchange are to be created that enable the advisors to develop together and provide space for reflection. By promoting transparency and coordination between individual support and counselling services at the university, we want to contribute to a sustainable and future-oriented networking of the actors.

Many students have health problems and stress, e.g. stress, psychosomatic complaints and unhealthy behaviour. The sub-project MoGuS ("Monitoring of Health and Academic Success") therefore aims to establish long-term health monitoring for students at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. Within the framework of a longitudinal study, indicators of health are to be linked with indicators of academic success. In this way, correlations between health and educational indicators can be established and, in the future, students can be identified at an early stage who, due to their health situation, have a greater need for support measures in their studies. The data collection will take place at three survey times and will be carried out among students from all faculties, regardless of their semester. More information on the health survey can be found here.

The findings from the above-mentioned two monitoring projects flow into this sub-project. This is a systematic data analysis with defined key figures to sustainably improve the quality of study programmes.

Kick-Off

The kick-off event of the MoBeS project took place on 29.06.2022 as part of the Day of Learning under the motto: "The future in view - with MoBeS and GO-IN".
In the form of a world café - an interactive exchange format - the participants here had the opportunity to adopt different perspectives (counselling, students, teachers) and to work on university-relevant topics at group tables in the form of constructive discussions. The regular changes of perspective kept the exchange of opinions lively. A multitude of ideas and approaches to solutions were collected and the results will be incorporated into MoBeS.

Here you can read more about the event (documentation).

Retreat

A closed meeting was held on 28-29 September 2022. The project stakeholders met and discussed the following topics:
⦁ Status quo in the departments: Counselling and communication structure
⦁ Roles in the MoBeS project
⦁ Discussion on "study success".
⦁ The next steps in the MoBeS project

Current work packages

⦁ AP 1: Proactively address students
⦁ AP 2: Identify anxiety modules
⦁ AP 3: Provide support services on a platform.

In addition, individual measures are implemented in the departments.

Qualification measures

The curriculum of the qualification measures will comprise 80 teaching units (60 hours) and is made up of basic modules (46 units / 6 days), elective modules (16 units / 2 days), workshops (8 units, 2 x 1/2 days) and impulses (8 units). It is designed for employees who work in the context of counselling.
