This year's university sports charity long-distance hike celebrated its ninth birthday with the traditionally challenging 60.28 km route.

This year's university sports charity long-distance hike celebrated its ninth anniversary with the traditionally challenging 60.28 km route. A total of 39 participants mastered the challenge through the picturesque Rhön under the experienced guidance of Prof Dr Marc Birringer. The route took the hikers past the most beautiful natural and hiking highlights of the Rhön, including the Steinwand, the Red Moor and the Cascade Gorge, and offered them an unforgettable experience.
At kilometre 46, a refreshment station run by the university sports team in the historic castle park in Gersfeld provided a well-earned break.

Thanks to the many years of friendly support from the Waldthausen Forestry Administration and the lord of the castle, Constantin v. Waldthausen. Waldthausen, the University Sports Centre was once again able to set up the rest stop in the fantastic historical ambience of the baroque castle - thank you very much!

Despite the physical and mental effort and the 79,000 steps, all participants reached the finish line with a smile - the first after just 11.25 hours! ‘It's an incredibly uplifting feeling to have achieved this!’ said one participant at the final dinner in the Kneshecke.
The combination of athletic performance and community spirit made the event a complete success and led to a new record for the ninth edition with 39 finishers.

The participation fees totalling 730 euros from the university sports charity walk were topped up by a contribution from the President of Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Karim Khakzar, and will be donated to the Tafel Fulda association.
Since it was founded in 2004, Tafel Fulda has been committed to distributing edible food that can no longer be sold in shops to people in need. In this way, Tafel Fulda makes an important contribution to reducing food waste and at the same time supports people in need by giving them access to essential food. We would like to support this valuable work with our donation.
