Activities organised by the Sustainability Office at the start of the winter semester

To mark the start of the semester, the Sustainability Office has been involved in a number of activities over the past few weeks. At the information fair about the support and participation offers for students at the university, which took place in Hall 8 as part of Freshers' Week, there was plenty to discover at the Sustainability Office stand and the campus garden. In addition to information about sustainability at the university and various activities and offers, such as the sustainability certificate and of course the campus garden, there was also a very special goodie - freshly picked apples.

In the following week, as is often the case at the start of the semester, the plant exchange fair took place at the campus garden. Here, seedlings, cuttings and plants that university members had left over could be handed in and/or taken home. After all, the same applies to plants: swapping or buying used plants instead of buying new ones reduces your carbon footprint.

There were also delicious apples to take home at the plant swap at the campus garden. They came from the orchard of the Caritas youth welfare organisation St. Elisabeth in Maberzell and were kindly made available to us for our students at the start of the semester. Incidentally, the species-rich fruit tree biotope of the youth welfare organisation was awarded the RhönEnergie Group's sustainability prize last year. The video gives you an insight into the great project and other measures for sustainability and biodiversity at the facilities:
