Patents and property rights - utilising project results

Whether you are an enterprise or institution involved in a university collaboration project or a student or researcher at Fulda University of Applied Sciences with an idea for an invention: We support you in protecting this idea. We accompany you throughout the entire intellectual property rights process - right through to commercialisation.

Please contact us if you have any questions! We also offer office hours together with our patent attorney.

In the case of joint inventions, you as a partner company benefit from our services regarding the application for industrial property rights. Among other things, we manage patent searches, commission patent attorneys and explore the commercialisation possibilities of the invention.

If employees have made an invention as part of their work at the university, this must be reported to the university using the invention form. The Employee Inventions Act is applicable here. If the university decides to take up the invention for an IP application, we will supervise it to the degree required. The university covers all costs incurred in connection with the registration. If the invention is exploited, e. g. in the case of licence agreements where royalties are paid to the university, the employee receives 30% of the income generated.

Law on employee inventions

Reporting an invention to Fulda University of Applied Sciences (Intranet page)

As independent inventors, students are not obliged to register their inventions with the university. If they nevertheless decide to do so and transfer the property rights to the university, we supervise the application for property rights and the university covers the costs. If the invention is commercialised, a remuneration of 30% is fixed by contract.

Students who work as student assistants, i.e. who have an employment contract with Fulda University of Applied Sciences, are obliged under the German Employee Invention Act to report any invention to the university.

To arrange an appointment with our patent attorney Dr Wehner and prepare the documents required, interested parties should contact Dr Mehl. The office hours will generally take place online, but face-to-face appointments are also possible.
