The work of the institutes and centres

Doctoral centres

In 2016, Fulda University of Applied Sciences was the first university of applied sciences in Germany to be granted the right to award doctoral degrees in social sciences. Other disciplines have since been added. This means that young researchers from Fulda University of Applied Sciences (as well as from other colleges and universities) have the opportunity to obtain their doctoral degree in Fulda.

Doctoral centres have been set up in individual departments to award doctoral degrees independently. While some doctoral centres are located exclusively at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, others work together with partner universities on an inter-university basis.

DFG Research Impulse

Shaping Future Society (SaFe)

The SaFe project is part of a new DFG scholarship programme for research-strong universities of applied sciences, which aims to support the establishment of excellent research and enable the further development of the research profile. The sociologically orientated research project focuses on the question of how communities appoint themselves to crises with the help of alternative futures. To this end, SaFe is focussing on new communities that are already driving forward crisis-resilient futures in practice. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the connection between communitisation and visions of the future.
