The Centre for Society and Sustainability conducts interdisciplinary research and promotes project-related cooperation within Fulda University of Applied Sciences. The CeSSt projects combine the competences of different departments to research the implementation of the idea of sustainability in its social, economic and ecological dimensions.
The focus is particularly on the connection between society and sustainability and the interdisciplinary responsibility to transform the political concept of sustainability into a social one. Therefore, CeSSt focuses on the necessary negotiation processes as well as the development of discourse and action structures for the interaction of civil society and politics to establish the idea of sustainability in political and social practice. The research results of the Centre are widely communicated through knowledge transfer and can be used as a basis for decision-making for the adaptation of political and civil society steering processes.
The centre was established on 1 January 2011 as a scientific centre of Fulda University of Applied Sciences, because as an actor in civil society, the university plays an essential role in raising social awareness and activating for socially acceptable development.
