Exchange between research and practice at the 19th BME Supply Management Symposium

The 19th "Supply Management" academic symposium organised by the German Association of Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BME) at the University of Mannheim brought together international researchers and practitioners from the fields of purchasing and supply management to discuss the latest research findings and provide impetus for the further development of the specialist field.

Fulda University of Applied Sciences was represented by Professor Dr Michael Huth as an assistant. He presented current research findings on the topic "Contribution of digitalisation technologies to resilience in supply chains". This was his first opportunity to be part of this established forum with a wide range of specialist lectures and in-depth discussions. The two-day event not only supported professional dialogue, but also personal exchanges between participants.

Another important part of the symposium was recognising the achievements of young academic researchers. Two participants were honoured for their excellent Master's theses. In addition, Prof. Dr Christian Weckenborg received an award for his outstanding habilitation entitled "Contributions of technology-oriented management to the sustainable development of industrial production and logistics" - a recognition that underlines the importance of innovative research for the further development of the specialist field.

The course was organised by Prof. Dr Christoph Bode, who has held the Endowed Chair of Procurement at the University of Mannheim since August 2014, and his team as well as Bianka Blankenberg from the BME. A big thank you for the smooth expire and the professional setting! Special thanks also go to Dr Lars Kleeberg, Managing Director of the BME, whose support made it possible to hold the symposium.

The symposium once again emphasised the importance of the continuous exchange between research and practice in supply management. Courses like this create space for new ideas, critical discussions and valuable networks - and thus make an important contribution to the further development of the specialist field.
