From logistics to supply chain management -
Professorship adapts to the state of academic research

Prof Dr Michael Huth and Prof Dr Jozo Acksteiner can be pleased about the successful change in the denomination of their professorships.

In recent decades, the focus of both enterprises and academia has shifted from pure logistics, which was equated with transport, storage and distribution, to supply chain management (SCM). In SCM, value creation processes are no longer planned and managed in isolation within an enterprise, but in interaction with customers, suppliers and other partners.

Volatile markets and experiences from current crises such as wars and the coronavirus pandemic have shown how vulnerable supply chains can be. This makes it necessary to understand supply chains as strategic networks that need to be actively designed and continuously optimised.

Fulda University of Applied Sciences would like to take this development into account by renaming the professorships of Prof Dr Michael Huth and Prof Dr Jozo Acksteiner from "General Business Administration, in particular Logistics" to "General Business Administration, in particular Supply Chain Management".
