Fulda Public Health Centre

Interdisciplinary, forward-looking and unique in Hesse

About the Centre

The Fulda Centre for Public Health (PHZF), established by Fulda University of Applied Sciences in January 2017, is the only academic institution in Hesse dedicated to research and teaching in the fields of public health and public health nutrition.

Public health focuses on the health of populations and population groups, which is influenced, amongst other things, by social, political and economic factors. As Fulda University of Applied Sciences’ central academic institution, the PHZF supports interdisciplinary, department-specific, inter-university / inter-institutional / cross-university and international research activities. The discipline of Public Health is part of the ‘Health, Nutrition and Food’ research focus – the first of three key research focuses that define Fulda University of Applied Sciences’ academic profile.

With the award of the right to award doctoral degrees by the State of Hesse in December 2016 for a Doctor of Public Health (Dr. P. H.), the Public Health discipline at Fulda University of Applied Sciences is playing a part in the development of an independent, profession-specific academic discipline, from which the academisation and professionalisation of the nutrition and health professions stand to benefit considerably.

The aim of the PHZF is to support public health activities in research, qualification, continuing education and professional development, advisory service and knowledge transfer, as well as to further develop research profiles and specialised academic resources. Furthermore, the PHZF supports exchange and networking with regional, national and international partners from the fields of research, teaching and practice.
