Successful diversity in a socio-spatial context

On 23 and 24 June 2022, around 100 academics and practitioners of municipal migration (social) work as well as students of social work took part in the final conference of the BMBF-funded joint research project"ProZiS - On the transformation of professionally and civically organised social work through immigration" (project management Prof. Dr. Monika Alisch from Fulda University of Applied Sciences and Prof. Dr. Manuela Westphal from the University of Kassel).

The conference focused on the transfer of research findings into the practice of municipal migration work. Prof. Dr. Nividita Prasad from the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin kicked off the conference with a talk on "Criticism of Racism in Social Work". Prof. Dr. Anne van Rießen (Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences) highlighted the challenges for social work in her contribution "Diversity in the context of commitment. Challenges for Social Work", Prof. Dr. Katrin Großmann (University of Applied Sciences Erfurt) focused on the ambivalent relationship between migration and conflict. Prof. Rebecca Pates (University of Leipzig) discussed in her lecture "The 'country with a migration background' and its high achievers. What the debate about belonging is all about", she discussed the relationship between belonging and performance.

On the second day, Monika Alisch, Manuela Westphal and Jens Vogler presented the main findings of the ProZiS project.
In two practical forums, Marlene Jänsch (Fulda University of Applied Sciences), Antonia Rösner (WIR Coordination, Hersfeld-Rotenburg District), Sergio Andrés Cortés Núñez (Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband), Diana Helfrich (AWO Kreisverband Fulda e. V.) and Lydia Mesgina (Competence Centre Diversity - Migrant Organisations, beramí e.V..) were invited to discuss and exchange experiences on the topics of "Division of labour between social work professionals and volunteers", "Networks in migration work", "Participation of migrant self-organisations in municipal migration (social) work", "Sponsorships in migration work" and "Acting in solidarity as the basis of cooperation for successful diversity".

The conference encouraged practitioners from all over Germany to exchange ideas again in a similar format.
