Due to the expansion of all-day care in day care centres, a large part of everyday domestic work has shifted from private households to day care centres. This development is associated with increased demands on the quality of care and provision as well as an increased need for housekeeping expertise. However, the labour market for home economics can only insufficiently take into account the increasing importance of home economics in day care centres, as it is characterised by decreasing training numbers and a lack of skilled workers. In many places, therefore, low-skilled or early childhood education staff are employed in the home economics sector in daycare centres. This often leads to quality losses in housekeeping services and even to non-compliance with legal requirements in the housekeeping sector. From the discrepancy between the target and actual quality of home economics services, a need for further training in home economics for the staff of day care centres can be derived. However, the concrete design of a housekeeping qualification measure for the staff of day care centres is associated with many ambiguities. In addition to the target group(s) to be targeted, the type and scope of further training or qualification in home economics for this target group are also unclear.
The HQuiK project aims to develop a home economics qualification concept for day care centres. In essence, the target group(s) to be targeted, their home economics qualification needs and a form of qualification are to be determined.
