Professor Dr Eva Tolasch

Dr Eva Tolasch has been appointed to the professorial appointment "Qualitative Health Research and Intersectionality" in the Department of Applied Sciences at Fulda University of Applied Sciences as of 1 February 2024. The term intersectionality refers to multiple discrimination and formulates how different forms of discrimination interact. The aim is to research this interaction using qualitative methods (interviews, observations) in the field of health.

Born in Hamburg, she obtained her doctorate in 2015 at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in the subject of sociology on gender-related stereotypes in relation to motherhood in the field of violence and law. Finally, she focussed on care responsibilities using the example of infant feeding and high body weight.

Dr Eva Tolasch has held various positions on the topic of intersectionality in the field of qualitative research at various universities, including the Universities of Jena, Göttingen, Innsbruck and Frankfurt. Most recently, she worked in science management at the administrative unit for diversity at the University of Rostock.

"It is important to me to think and act from the subject. That's why I feel 'at home' in the field of qualitative research, which is very close to the people affected, and, starting from the individual experience of practice, I ask about interlocking social inequalities that go hand in hand with discrimination," she says and is convinced: "Qualitative research and intersectionality research are of central importance in the field of health research in order to create equal opportunities in health."

She is now particularly looking forward to teaching and exchanging ideas with students, but also to research and administrative autonomy at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences in the Department of Health Sciences.
