Professorship of Midwifery Science in the Department of Health Science

Johanna Neumeyer has been appointed as a professor in the Department of Health Science and will be responsible for teaching and research as well as managing and developing the specialist field of midwifery science.

After training as a midwife in Würzburg, she worked as a freelance midwife until 2022, providing antenatal, labour and postnatal care. At the same time, she completed her Bachelor's programme in Midwifery at Fulda University of Applied Sciences in 2019 and obtained a Master's degree in Public Health there in 2022.

She became involved in the academic training of prospective midwives at an early stage: She worked as a practice advisor on the midwifery study programme, completed continuing education to become a practice supervisor and then managed the practical training at Kassel Hospital. In 2023, she took over the head of the study programme in midwifery at Fulda University of Applied Sciences.

In addition to her university activities, Johanna Neumeyer is a member of the Presidential Board of the Midwifery Science Faculty Conference (HWFT). With this commitment, she contributes to quality assurance in teaching, research and knowledge transfer and supports the establishment and further development of midwifery science in the academic landscape.

In her doctoral project, she is focussing on the mental health of midwifery students. The aim of her research is to further develop the study conditions in midwifery education in a health-promoting way, to strengthen the path to the profession and to contribute to the professionalisation of the professional field in the long term.
