Professorship of Public Health Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology in the Department of Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences

Dr Tilman Kühn has been Professor of Public Health Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology in the Department of Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences since 1 April 2025.

He studied Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences at Fulda University of Applied Sciences and HAW Hamburg as well as Public Health Nutrition at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. In 2013, the 46-year-old obtained his doctorate at the German Cancer Research Institute Heidelberg (DKFZ) in the field of epidemiology on the topic of "Vitamin D and non-skeletal diseases". He then worked at the DKFZ for three years as a post-doctoral student in the field of nutritional epidemiology with a specialisation in lifestyle, metabolism and risk of chronic diseases. In 2017, he took over as head of the Nutritional Epidemiology working group for three years and completed his habilitation in the subject of epidemiology in 2020. Before taking up the professorship for Public Health Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology in the Department of Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences at Fulda University of Applied Sciences in April 2025, he had been working in the UK as a lecturer in Epidemiology and Statistics at Queen's University Belfast since 2020 and also as a professor of Public Health Nutrition at the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna since 2022.

His publication list includes more than 300 international publications on the topics of nutrition, metabolism and chronic diseases. Professor Kühn is a member of the German Society for Nutrition (DGE) and the Austrian Society for Nutrition (ÖGE). He is a member of the extended board of both professional organisations. At the Fulda University of Applied Sciences, he will focus on plant-based diets and health, global nutrition transition, nutrition after cancer and long-term health as well as nutrition policy.
