Professorship for Energy Transmission and Energy Storage in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

Professor Dr Isabell Wirth joined the team at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Fulda University of Applied Sciences on 1 September 2025. The 35-year-old native of the Rhön region has been appointed to the professorship for "Energy Transmission and Energy Storage". Her research will focus on energy technology in the field of hydrogen technology and high-voltage technology.

Isabell Wirth studied mechatronics at the Mosbach Cooperative State University and worked in parallel at Babcock Noell GmbH. After one and a half years as a full-time engineer, she began a Master's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Schweinfurt, specialising in the formation of electric fields in high-voltage components under three-phase and direct current loads. In her dissertation entitled "Consideration of dielectric material properties in the finite element simulation of HVDC insulation systems", she built on the knowledge gained during her Master's degree. She co-operated with the TU Ilmenau and the company HSP Hochspannungsgeräte GmbH.

Most recently, Isabell Wirth worked in the hydrogen technology laboratory at Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences. There she was part of the team developing a hydrogen-powered lightweight aircraft (Taifun 17 H2). In addition to supervising theses and research projects, her work as a research assistant also included giving lectures.

"I'm looking forward to working with the students, researchers and lecturers," says the new professor, adding: "Fulda University of Applied Sciences is a friendly place with an ideal learning environment."
