Publication as part of the UN Decade for People of African Descent

As part of the UN Decade for People of African Descent, the "Expertise Police and Complaints Offices" by Professor Dr Cengiz Barskanmaz from the Department of Social Work was published last week by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

In it, Professor Barskanmaz first categorises independent police complaints offices in legal terms and then addresses anti-Black racism and specific phenomena in the context of police action. Finally, he sheds light on how the complaints centres deal with anti-Black racism. A look at collaboration with non-governmental organisations, examples of good practice and recommendations for action round off the report.
