Why we should focus more on this dimension of sustainable development is the subject of Gesprächsstoff 54 with Professor Bettina Stoll.

Most people associate sustainability with ecological issues. However, the concept of sustainable development also comprises economic and social issues. It is about a healthy world, a healthy business, a healthy, stable society and the interplay and interdependence of these three aspects.

For Bettina Stoll, Professor of Social Management, the often narrow debates on sustainability are an opportunity to broaden the focus and take a closer look at social sustainability. After all, it is not only our well-being that depends on the way we live together, but also whether we find solutions to the major challenges of our time. And because we are currently sensing that social cohesion is changing, that there are fractures and frictions, she believes that we need to talk: We need to talk.

What exactly is social sustainability? And who defines it? What levers do we have to achieve socially sustainable coexistence? Do we have to economise and make sacrifices? And can I, as an individual, make any difference at all? No question, the topic is complex. In this interview, Bettina Stoll and moderator Mariana Friedrich provide guidelines for a broader debate and show that a stronger focus on social sustainability can be a good perspective.
