The further qualification programme quali.prof@haw supports young academics on their career path to a professorship at a university of applied sciences (HAW). Here you will find general information on the programme as well as information on the programme structure and participation.
A professorship at a university of applied sciences (UAS) means...
not having to choose between research and practice, but finding teaching and research with an application-oriented specialisation
great planning security, which admits the compatibility of family and professional life
no pressure to acquire third-party funding
flat hierarchies and collegial structures
active participation in administrative autonomy
Proximity to students
being part of the "Third Mission" and meeting social demands and trends and working on solutions
security of the workstation
The HAW professorship career path is an attractive career option for academics. The appointment requirements differ from those for university professorships: instead of the habilitation, experience in teaching and non-university practice are important. However, there are hardly any information and qualification offers for this career path.
Target group
The quali.prof@haw programme is aimed at
committed young academics from the University of Applied Sciences Fulda and the University of Kassel, as well as from other universities as external participants, who already hold a doctorate or are in the final phase of a doctorate
established professional practitioners who are considering the career path of an HAW professorship.
Programme objective
The aim of the programme is to motivate young academics to pursue a career as a professor at an HAW and to prepare and qualify them in a structured manner for obtaining and holding an HAW professorship.
By participating in the programme, young academics are explicitly to
- get to know the job description of an HAW professor and put themselves in this role
- learn more about the HAW professorship career path and plan their own concrete career steps accordingly
- acquire the key competences required for the HAW professorship

Background: Overall project ProGEPP@HFD
The quali.prof@haw further qualification programme is part of the overall ProGEPP@HFD project at Fulda University of Applied Sciences.
ProGEPP stands for "Program for the recruitment and development of professorial staff" and is the title of the project funded by the federal-state programme "FH-Personal" at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. As part of this program, the university has around €7.4 million at its disposal in the period 01.04.2021 - 31.03.2027 to test new ways and opportunities to qualify and develop young professors.
The project includes eight measures that focus not only on the Fulda University of Applied Sciences but also on the state and national level.
Subject-specific measures: Doctoral research groups, tandem programs, priority professorships
Overarching measures: Central University Administration of junior researchers at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, professionalisation of professorial appointment procedures, recruitment and support of international professors, further qualification programme "HAW-Professur" (quali.prof@haw), nationwide campaign "Karriereweg HAW-Professur" (career path HAW professorship).
